Candidate Statement: “I believe strongly in the cooperative business model. I’m a long-term member of several cooperatives. I served for ten years on the board of Outpost Natural Foods Cooperative. It’s one of the largest U.S. grocery cooperatives. There I learned about a wide range of cooperative governance matters. Included were finances, strategic policy planning, member engagement, checking organizational performance, and board management. As president of the board, I facilitated consensus decision processes and member communication. I also helped lead the board through a period of substantial
market uncertainty.
I work as a water policy consultant in the Milwaukee area, and have graduate degrees in planning, administration, and policy. My farmstead is in Shawano, where I grew up. I have served on the Common Ground Healthcare Cooperative (CGHC) board for three years gaining knowledge of the health insurance sector. I initiated enhancements to CGHC’s board processes and reporting that allowed for improved focus on strategic planning and financial sustainability. It is truly wonderful that we have a cooperative option for health insurance. Maintaining affordable and high-quality options for members is critical. This is especially true during times of regulatory and policy uncertainty. As a self-employed consultant, I’m keenly aware of the value (and rarity) of marketplace health plan options that are member driven. I fully support the CGHC mission to provide mutual benefit through fairly- priced health plans informed by shared cooperative goals. I would be honored to continue to serve CGHC and my fellow members.”
